Best Friends AND Family

Uncle WayneChanges are never ending but there are a few things you can always count on . . . friends and family.   Three weeks ago I got a call at work that my Uncle Wayne was in the hospital.  His daughter told me that they didn’t expect him to make it out.   Thankfully the new boss was very understanding and I went directly to the hospital.

Uncle Wayne and I have spent a lot of time together since I moved to the farm.  We spent most of our holidays together – Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day and Labor Day.  It was wonderful because we both loved to cook and were constantly trying recipes out on each other.  He was best known for his gizzards that I wrote about earlier.  Neither of us had a lot of money so there was never any pressure to do something neither of us couldn’t afford.  But the thing we both liked to do was just hang out and talk.  We never talked about anything very important, just kept up with each others’ lives.

A few times a year Uncle Wayne and I would take the golf cart out to the woods and clear trails.   He laughed as the chicken coop I was building and constantly teased me to use my horse trailer for chicken coop.   When I had electrical problems with my van, he came over and helped me try to figure out where the draw was coming from.

Well, holidays will be on my own again.   Uncle Wayne is no longer in pain from the cancer, but I will miss him immensely.
